William Milton Mitchell was our 2nd great-grandfather. (He is the father of
our grandfather, Ira Brown Mitchell.) The house and land were willed to Ira Brown Mitchell by Dave Taylor so he was the first Mitchell to live in the house, as far as I know.
William Milton Mitchell never lived in
the Mitchell house but was a very active member of the community. He was one
of six founding members of the Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church. He was the pastor there for 50 years.
His portrait still hangs in the church.
At the time of his death in 1901, he was living with his daughter Nancy and her husband, James Puckett, in Opelika. The house came into the family about 1912, so that was after the death of William Milton Mitchell.
